Chapter 235: Farewell to the Mist
Chapter 235: Farewell to the Mist
Translator: CinderTL
What do you mean "inevitable"? Didn't someone just stir up this conflict by shouting "next time for sure"? Hmph!
Feng Qi: ...
After watching for a moment longer, he decisively turned and walked toward the corridor entrance.
He decided to search outside for the Three-Tailed, attempting to capture it.
If that failed, he would seek out the Lord of the Mist.
He inwardly hoped that Lin Ran would succeed in Anti-Parasitic Mist Lord.
Once the Right Protector was in place, he could walk all over the Future Dream Realm.
Are you a crab?
"I'm your dad!"
He immediately regretted saying that.
Just as he'd anticipated, the Narrator immediately launched into its usual verbal onslaught.
Ignoring the Narrator's incessant nagging, he left the metal corridor and entered the abandoned hospital.
After exiting the hospital, he noticed that the layout of the buildings outside had changed slightly, clearly a result of the altered timeline.
The only constant was the Blood Moon hanging high in the sky, still bathing everything in its scarlet glow.
"A'Bai, scan the area for the Three-Tailed."
As he stepped onto the street outside the hospital and began walking back toward the Star City Shelter, he immediately said.
Heh, you insult me and then expect me to do your work? Even capitalists wouldn't exploit a system this badly.
Feng Qi: "..."
"My mistake. I won't do that again."
Write me a million-word guarantee first to prove your sincerity.
"Asshole System, don't push it."
Bone Man, you're getting too bold. If I had a physical form, I'd grind your head into the dirt!
After a round of bickering, Feng Qi continued on his way.
As for the search for Three-Tailed, he trusted the Narrator.
Though the Narrator was often unreliable, it never failed him in crucial moments.
While it claimed not to cooperate, it would undoubtedly help search in secret.
When he switched his human body to Battle Body Form, the flesh and blood on his skin transformed into qi blood and imprinted themselves onto his bones.
His physical capabilities were instantly enhanced.
His running speed surged.
Compared to the Demon Dragon Rune-Modified Body from the Sacrifice Line's memories, this body felt far more comfortable.
Both powers originated externally.
The Demon Dragon Rune Modification involved embedding Demonic Dragon rune crystals within his body to gain some of the demon dragon's traits and physical strength.
Yet even after the modification, he struggled to use this power flexibly.
Though subsequent training improved his compatibility, it never reached 100%, preventing him from fully mastering it.
The body that could steal innate abilities was entirely different.
Even if all its powers and innate abilities were plundered from domain creatures, they fit him perfectly from the moment he acquired them, with no sense of awkwardness.
In comparison, the body capable of stealing innate abilities was clearly superior to the rune-modified body.
He now strongly suspected that his unique body was somehow connected to miracle items.
With this thought, he mentally asked:
"A'Bai, you've seen the memories from the Sacrifice Line. Do you think you might be a miracle item?"
I think it's quite possible... but I absolutely refuse to admit I'm a miracle item. It makes me sound completely lifeless, like some toy being used. Just thinking about it makes me want to grind my teeth to dust. This is too cruel, damn it.
"Don't overthink it. Perhaps your origin isn't that simple," he immediately reassured him.
What do you mean?
"I don't think you're an ordinary miracle. You might be some kind of high-level miracle—the very top tier of miracle items."
You stupid Bone Man, that's still a miracle item!
Feng Qi: ...
While chatting, Feng Qi continued to run through the streets of the city ruins.
The layout of the buildings had changed somewhat, but the general terrain remained the same, preventing him from getting lost.
"A'Bai, have you spotted Three-Tailed?"
Not a chance. Leave me alone—let me wallow in my misery for a bit.
"Then keep wallowing. Just let me know if you find Three-Tailed."
At this point, the Narrator remained silent.
He continued weaving through the streets, during which he encountered several domain creatures.
He had no intention of going up to fight.
It wasn't that he didn't want to improve his strength, but rather that he believed the next Future Dream Timeline would likely focus on power upgrades. When that time came, there would be plenty of opportunities to hunt domain creatures.
As for the limited time in this particular Future Dream Timeline, it naturally had to be spent on Three-Tailed and the Lord of the Mist.
Lost in thought, he searched the abandoned city without finding any trace of Three-Tailed until he left.
During this time, the Narrator offered no hints, clearly having also failed to track Three-Tailed's movements.
Ahead lay the burial ground, a region piled high with the bones of countless Little Cripple clansmen.
As he stepped into the burial ground, the crunch of snapping bones echoed under his feet with every stride.
After more than twenty minutes, he reached the entrance to the metallic tunnel he had opened, but he didn't pause, continuing his sprint toward the mist.
Standing before the dense fog, he halted.
Switching to human form, he thrust his mental energy into the mist.
While stirring the mist with his mental energy, he took a deep breath and shouted into the swirling mass:
"Lin Ran, come out here!"
As if hearing his desperate cry, the mist began to recede.
With the wails of wraiths from within, a mist face emerged.
"From what Domain Force do you hail, and what business do you have with me...?"
Mid-sentence, the Lord of the Mist's expression turned to astonishment as he gazed upon the familiar face before him.
Memories flooded back instantly.
Upon closer inspection, he realized how strikingly this person resembled his savior from long ago.
He was no stranger to Feng Qi.
After deciphering some of the bloodstone's mysteries, he had assumed a new identity and reintegrated into human society.
He devised a grand plan to resurrect his clansmen, a method tied to the special operating path he had derived and refined from the bloodstone.
During this time, he began selecting influential pawns to advance his scheme.
His ultimate target was the Tiger Soul Research Institute.
While infiltrating the institute, he wandered through Star City, where he learned more about his savior.
He discovered the man's name was Feng Qi and that he was likely a domain creature like himself, operating in the shadows of human civilization.
From then on, he would often visit Feng Qi's tombstone to light an incense stick... and help himself to some of the offerings, thus fulfilling his promise from years past.
This left a deep impression of Feng Qi on him.
1,500 years later, gazing at the familiar face, the Lord of the Mist froze, its processing momentarily stalled.
After a few seconds of silence, it tentatively asked:
"Feng Qi? You're still alive?"
"None of your business," Feng Qi retorted, flipping it the middle finger.
The Lord of the Mist didn't react with anger.
The man's tone instantly brought to mind a scene from its memory.
Back then, it had asked Feng Qi why he had saved it.
With the exact same tone of impatience, Feng Qi had replied:
"Because I liked the look of you, can't I?"
