Chapter 450 - 443: Endless Universe
Chapter 450 - 443: Endless Universe
All humans have desires, and Anna could observe the manifestations of these various desires.
A lecherous person’s heart would be filled with amorous visions.
A greedy person’s heart would glitter with pearls and jewels.
Those who craved power had mountains and thrones in their hearts. Those who worshiped strength would manifest the image of a lion. Those who reveled in violence would have the shadows of swords and guns inside them.
Even those seemingly desireless Cultivators and Monks harbored desires in their hearts. In fact, their desires were often even grander. A Monk, for example, would see visions of a Divine Buddha or a Venerable.
They desired something more than life itself. It was precisely because this powerful desire suppressed their base instincts that they appeared so pure and ascetic.
Self-discipline exists for the sake of a greater desire.
And she could exploit these desires, guiding them as she pleased.
To the lecher, she would be an unmatched beauty. To the greedy, she would be a priceless treasure. To the Monk, she would be the Divine Buddha he yearned for. To the Martial Artist, she would be the unattainable, supreme realm.
With her power, she became the Sovereign of her opponent’s mind.
But when she targeted Zhou Yuanjue with her ability, what materialized in her mind was a boundless, unknown space that resembled the universe.
For a moment, she felt as if she were adrift in a boundless, star-filled cosmos.
’This is his inner desire? What on earth... is this?!’
’I can’t understand what I’m seeing. What kind of desire manifests in my mind as a boundless, star-filled universe?’
She could imitate any thing or being she was able to understand, even a Divine Buddha.
But she couldn’t simulate an existence she couldn’t comprehend, because she had no idea where to even begin.
This was completely different from what she understood. In the past, only two people had been completely immune to her ability.
One was the leader of the Baiyi Organization, Bai Jiu.
That man wasn’t without desire. On the contrary, his desires seemed to encompass everything in this world. His greed for all things was equal, making it impossible for her to find a single, strongest desire to use to dominate his Spirit.
The other person was Dela.
With that man, she couldn’t form any manifestation at all. What he craved was a singular, unparalleled dominance—his strongest desire was to be utterly unique in this world.
And the last one was the man standing before her now.
She had assumed that given his identity and his actions in Donghua, his greatest desire would be for his nation, for humanity, or for his people. She never expected it would be a seemingly infinite universe.
’Use the Spirit to command the body, use the finite to reach the infinite...’
The words Zhou Yuanjue had once spoken flashed through her mind, and she instantly understood the true nature of his desire’s manifestation.
The boundless universe represented "the infinite."
An ordinary person’s desires and goals are like climbing a mountain; a mountain is a tangible thing, and its peak can be seen. This man, however, pursued the universe itself. He would not stop for any achievement, nor would he rejoice at any accomplishment. He would never be satisfied. His eyes would always be fixed on what lay ahead, and he would never stop his pursuit.
’To think that someone like this actually exists in the world...’
An indescribable feeling rose in Anna’s heart—it was the awe one feels when witnessing something truly sublime.
TAP TAP TAP!!
Zhou Yuanjue walked slowly toward her, ignoring all of her influence, and stopped right in front of her.
His tall frame blocked her line of sight. For an instant, his figure overlapped with the imposing image of Dela in her mind.
Zhou Yuanjue slowly extended a finger. In a state of Star Cell resonance, his entire arm was shrouded in brilliant starlight. A silver-and-red magnetic field erupted, enveloping his arm.
As Anna stared in a daze, Zhou Yuanjue’s index finger gently tapped the red mark on her forehead.
Zhou Yuanjue’s magnetic field collided with Anna’s, and they neutralized each other, nullifying the effects of her special ability.
The dazed look in Wang Heng Mountain’s eyes instantly cleared. Only then did he realize he had unknowingly fallen for her trick. ’Right,’ he thought, ’the Witch, Anna. Though she rarely makes a move, she’s said to possess the terrifying power to control people’s minds.’
’I can’t believe Zhou Yuanjue wasn’t affected by that power at all.’
Nearby, Goth’s expression shifted as he came to his senses.
"Instead of being a Sovereign to others, it is better to be a Sovereign to yourself. Hasn’t Dela taught you that?"
Zhou Yuanjue said, slowly retracting his finger.
Anna fell into a long silence. Dela had once said something similar to her.
’In a way, those two are actually quite similar...’
Anna couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
"The test is over. You should believe what I’ve said now, shouldn’t you?"
Zhou Yuanjue said calmly.
"Alright, we’ll cooperate on your terms."
"We will provide you with sufficient intelligence and support. Of course, since this is a matter of life and death for the entire Rift Organization, we can’t just let you charge into the fray alone. We will make our own arrangements and deployments as soon as possible. We’ll strike first to gain the advantage, comprehensively restricting and weakening the forces of Baiyi and Desolate."
Anna said, her gaze fixed on Zhou Yuanjue.
"Then let’s hope for a successful partnership."
Zhou Yuanjue extended his hand. Anna did the same, and they shook on it.
"One last thing. I have a question, if you don’t mind me asking."
Zhou Yuanjue asked with a smile after they released their hands.
"Oh? And what might that be? Go ahead."
Anna said, raising an eyebrow.
Just then, she clearly saw an exceptionally bright glint in Zhou Yuanjue’s eyes. It was utterly captivating.
"Did Dela ever break through that barrier? Did he reach a new realm?"
Zhou Yuanjue asked, his gaze as sharp as a torch. Anna could sense no jealousy, no envy, and no worry in his voice—only a powerful sense of anticipation... and longing.
He was hoping someone could reach a higher realm, even if that person wasn’t him.
’Just as I’d expect from someone whose goal is a universe without end. He’s actually... hoping for the success of a man who will most likely become his rival...’
Faced with Zhou Yuanjue’s intense aura and longing, Anna found that she couldn’t bring herself to utter the lie on the tip of her tongue.
It was as if she couldn’t bear to damage such devotion.
She adjusted her tone and was about to speak, but Zhou Yuanjue cut her off. "You don’t have to say anything. I already know the answer."
"How wonderful..."
And in his voice, she could actually hear a sense of boundless joy.
