Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 274: Body Disposal

Chapter 274: Body Disposal

The two companions left the small frontier town of Holen behind with a skip in their steps. Whilst it had been quite the eventful enterance to the town with the whole bandit raid, then encountering that racist old man. Overall it had been a mostly pleasant experience.

Most of the people, whilst initially wary of the two of them had soon warmed up, particularly after Violet had bought them all free drinks for the night!

Still they knew that going forward things might become more complicated, or at least more uncomfortable for them.

The bigotry held within the human kingdom ran deep, if the now dead old man was an outlier in this frontier town where encounters with beastkin are more common. They could only imagine what the king of reception they may find when deeper into the kingdom where general opinion may better match that of the old man.

Still the girls would not be deterred. They trusted in their strength to not be bullied, even if they encountered a sovereign, whilst they knew that they would have no hope of defeating such a foe, they did feel quietly confident in at least escaping.

After all they had teleportation powers and if things truly got dangerous Violet could always return to her true form and fly them away. Granted this would be their last option as it would reveal their nature and location to any that may have deleterious intentions for them.

So despite any perceived dangers they felt confident in at least visiting some of the smaller cities that populated the kingdom of Eldor.

But that was not to say that they would go about taking any major risks in their exploration, one such risk that they quickly ruled out was returning to their beast forms. For the duration of their stay within the Kingoms borders they would remain in their humanoid body’s, for whilst they wouldn’t exactly be welcome it should dissuade people from attacking them out of the gate.

They hoped anyway.

Honestly they both still knew so little about this kingdom, sure they knew some stories and had heard about what actions the kingdom had committed in the past, giving the girls a generally negative impression of the country.

But they didn’t actually know more than some of the high level facts about it.

Was the entire kingdom the same? Or had the evil acts perpetrated by them only been a result of the decisions made by the higher ups?

Well based on their only true interactions with its citizens so far they didn’t seem all too evil, sure the old man was a truly foul individual, but he seemed to be an outlier.

Speaking of that old man however, they did need to dispose of his body. So after walking for a few hours Violet made a quick detour off the well worn dirt road they had been following and flew up into the sky.

With her keen senses it did not take her too long to find what she was looking for.

Not too far away a small pack of wolf like beasts were relaxing in the early morning sun by a rocky outcropping. They numbered around a dozen with the strongest amongst them in the early stages of tier 3, so no true threat for Violet but perfect for what she wanted.

She angled her flight and rocketed towards the pack. She flaired her wings hard just before she impacted the ground, dramatically slowing her decent and allowing her to land with easy grace as a gust of wind kicked up some dust and partially obscuring her form.

Yips of surprise rose up for the wolf pack she had just landed amongst as they scrambled to their feet and stared worriedly at the figure obscured by the dust cloud.

When it fully dispersed the wolfs stood staring at Violet with clear apprehension. Low growls came from some of the younger and weaker of the pack whilst the apparent alpha made no move as she carefully observed Violet standing their with a relaxed posture.

For her part Violet felt no threat from this small pack, even if she simply stood there and allowed them to attack her she was sure that they would be unable to do more than scratch her scales. They only thing she was concerned about would be the state of her dress if she did allow them to attack, she did quite like this one after all.

Soon however more of the wolves joined in on the growling, their brashness clearly outweighing their caution, one of the younger amongst them even had the bright idea to leap at her with its jaws open for a bite.

Violet snorted and gently, very gently slapped the wolf out of the air sending it crashing into the ground with a startled yelp. Then before the wolves could try anything more stupid she let out a growl of her own as she mixed in a small amount of her presence.

The pack froze in an instant, their warning growls dying out as they now understood that they stood no chance against her.

With a satisfied snort Violet nodded before dumping the body of the old man out to land with a wet thud on the ground before her.

"Well enjoy the snack little wolves! Bye!" And like that she leapt up into the air and took off the reunite with Luna who had not bothered to follow and had kept on walking down the road.

The pack remained frozen for quite some time as they watch the rapidly retreating figure of the terrifying creature that had just visited them, none dared make a move, even the wounded youngster on the ground remained frozen so as to not anger the creature any further.

Still eventually their beastial nature caused them to move their focus over the the dead body now lying in the middle of their pack, one wolf approached it and gave it an experimental sniff, then a small bite.

It would seem like they had just been delivered a free meal by that strange beast that walked on two legs and flew through the sky.

On that day a new ledgend was born amongst the beasts that called that section of the plains home, that of a terrifying and benevolent creature that would offer food in exchange for pain.

Unaware of her budding ledgend amongst the beasts of the region, Violet soon reunited with Luna and they continued to walk towards their next destination.

Well they say walk but they moved at a speed appropriate for their advancement and stats. So for a low leveled person it would look like they were sprinting across the landscape, yet to them it was only a slightly energetic walk, a pace that they could maintain for a very long time.

Patrick had told them that it would take multiple days before they reached the nearby city, but that was at low level speeds. For them it would likely take no more than a full day or two.

Still they were in no major rush and decided that it might be a good idea to visit some of the smaller towns and villages along the way so as to get a better grasp of the local situation.

As such when they came across another small village as the afternoon was transitioning into evening the two companions decided that it might be worth stopping in for the night.

They slowed their pace upon approach, not wanting to startle the likely low level guards that likely protected the small settlement.

As they got closer they could make out more details of the village, and it truly was a village. It had what could generously be called a wall surrounding it, whilst maybe two dozen building stood within the ’walls’.

The road that they were on would have taken them past the village but a side road split off the main path leading straight towards it.

Approaching the small settlement they were soon noticed by a lone guard standing by the gate. He had been previously leaning against the gate whilst sat back on a rickety wooden stool, when he noticed the arrival of the two girls he rushed to his feet.

Then when he finally took note of their none human features his relaxed posture seemed to stiffen slightly, but both girls did note that he did not reach for the basic sword strapped to his side which they took as a positive sign.

Soon they arrived before the guard who greeted them. "Welcome, what is your purpose for visiting our small village?"

Luna took a step forward opting to lead the talks this time. "Greetings friend. Just looking for a safe place to spend the night before we set off again in the morning."

The guard seemed to relax at her words and made a gesture into the village itself. "We’ll be welcome then, just don’t cause no trouble ya here. Inn is down the Main Street, cannt miss it." With his job apparently done he moved to sit back down on his stool, clearly not bothered to do more.

With a shrug to each other Violet and Luna proceeded to walk into the small village in search of a place to sleep for the night.
